DANISH FESTIVAL SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR
THE 2017 GRAND MARSHAL

Grand Marshal festivities begin with the Open Air Breakfast in July, continuing through the Queen’s Pageant the week prior to Danish Festival and an invitation-only Grand Celebration directly following opening ceremonies on Thursday evening. Danish Festival Inc. provides authentic Danish attire for the Grand Marshal(s) and a vehicle for Saturday’s Grand Dansk Parade.

If you know someone you would like to see honored this way, please submit their names, address and phone number along with a brief summary of that individual or couple’s contribution to the Greenville area and specifically to the Danish Festival if they have been active in the event.

THEME ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2017:
The Fir Tree (“Grantraeet”)

The Danish Festival Board of Directors would like to invite everyone to join in the celebration of the 53rd annual Danish Festival, August 17-20, 2017. The theme this year is “The Fir Tree”.

First published in 1844 by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, The Fir Tree is a story about the life of a sad fir tree who was never happy with what he had. He spent his days wishing he was taller. He longed to be something grander like the mast of a tall ship or a beautifully adorned Christmas tree.

Finally, one winter he was chosen to be a Christmas tree. The Fir Tree immediately felt sad and lonely. He began to regret not appreciating what had ultimately been the happiest times of his life.

During the 53rd annual Danish Festival, The Fir Tree theme will be showcased in the poster contest, parades and other forms of artwork and events.

Danish Festival, Inc.’s mission is to host a festival that celebrates the homecoming of family and friends and our area’s Danish heritage. Please join us on this year on August 17-20, 2017 with the theme “The Fir Tree”. For more information, visit the website at www.danishfestival.org or contact the Danish Festival office at (616) 754-6369.
